Using The Free Kataku Trial Service
The Kataku automatic translation engine is dynamic - it is continually being improved and upgraded. By following the advice below, you can get the best out of Kataku while helping us adapt to your needs.
Why will Kataku only translate the first part of my document?
Kataku is provided on this website as a free trial facility and is limited to translating 300 words of text or of a website. If your translation needs exceed this limit, please speak to us about accessing the right Kataku product for you or your business.
Why don't some common words seem to translate in the free box?
Kataku only translates .txt formatted input (or HTML for a URL request). If you want to pick up a sentence or paragraph within another formatted document (such as Word for example), you should first save the file as .txt before 'copying' the text and 'pasting' it into the free box. If you just pick up text from a formatted document, chances are you will pick up hidden format characters attached to words, which won't then be recognised.
What does the SMS/email button do?
Kataku translates best when given standard English or Indonesian text. However, these days a lot of information travels as ill-formed or idiomatic text in emails, SMS messages and Instant Messaging chats. By turning on the SMS/email option, you are telling Kataku to expect such non-standard language, and it loosens its accuracy requirements. It is best not to use this option on standard text.
How can I get the best translation?
Kataku will give you a far better translation if you give Kataku a better document to translate! Here are some tips for getting the best out of Kataku:
- use standard grammar, spelling and punctuation
- avoid slang words, especially uncommon slang words
- try to avoid idioms and figurative expressions
- if your document has internal formatting, (for example, html or Word documents), save the file as plain text before translating
- do not use SMS or email abbreviations in a default translation, but if you need to translate such text, try turning on our SMS/email option
- if your documents have a high number of technical terms which do not appear to be in our lexicon, please consider using our Kataku products which provide you with a user editable lexicon
How can I help make the Kataku system more accurate?
Kataku is one of the most accurate automatic translation systems in the world, and is increasing in accuracy all the time. Unlike standard electronic dictionaries, Kataku does not translate word to word, but is designed to recognise the meaning of each sentence.
If you identify a consistent mistranslation, we would be happy to hear from you - please send us a message with sufficient details for our computational linguists to investigate the issue and get back to you.
Note that ToggleText bears no responsibility for translation inaccuracies as detailed in the Terms and Conditions associated with use of our services.
